Policy Areas: Technology Transfer
“Innovation and technology have become the engines of the American economy, and advances in science and engineering provide the fuel.”
-Dr. Arden L. Bement, Jr., Director, National Science Foundation
Technology transfer, the practice of moving technological innovations from academic or governmental laboratories to the marketplace, is one of the most underappreciated forces that drive the country’s economic growth. When innovation, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship intersect, small business startups become high-growth companies. But while promising research is constantly being commercialized, a vast amount goes unrecognized and never reaches the market. In order to maximize the utilization of this research, many are starting to focus on linking researchers directly to the innovators who can identify and develop these ideas to their full potential.
