2005 East and Southeast Fort Worth Economic Summit
Congressman Michael Burgess, Honorary Summit Chair
June 3, 2005
Fort Worth, Texas

Workshop Descriptions

Encouraging Entrepreneurship

Moderator: Dorothy Wing, Manager of Economic Diversification, City of Fort Worth

Panelists:

  • Alicia Fannon, Executive Director, William Mann Jr. Community Development Corporation

  • Clyde Higgs, President, Tech Fort Worth

  • Rosa Navejar, President, Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

  • Floyd McNeely, Vice President, FMB Manufacturing

Where most regions of our nation once focused on growing their economies through traditional business retention and incentive-based recruitment programs, many are now realizing the importance of entrepreneurialism as a powerful long-term solution to good jobs and economic prosperity. Particularly of importance to the area due to a growing Hispanic population and large African-American population, minority entrepreneurship offers another avenue for urban investment. The summit will examine how entrepreneurs bring innovation to the area, developing businesses that can serve as a catalyst for new growth.
