2005 East and Southeast Fort Worth Economic Summit
Congressman Michael Burgess, Honorary Summit Chair
June 3, 2005
Fort Worth, Texas

Workshop Descriptions

Building Communities & Changing Perceptions

Moderator: Pamela Dunlap Gates, Trial Lawyer, The Misko Law Firm

Panelists

  • Donald Babers, Deputy Regional Director, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

  • Dan Quinto, President, Roaring Brook Development Company

  • Shirley Lewis, President, Southeast Fort Worth CDC

In an innovative economy where attracting the best and brightest is a necessity, improving quality of life is becoming equally as important as other more traditional economic development methods. Facing the challenge of deteriorating physical infrastructure and crime rates above those in neighboring communities, southeast Fort Worth must undertake significant efforts to improve the quality of life for its residents and change the negative perceptions held by others outside the community. The summit will seek to identify approaches to make the necessary improvements to physical infrastructure – such as transportation and housing – as well as target programs that will help reduce crime and promote a more positive image of the area.
