Wes Turner, 54, joined Knight Ridder on May 9, 1997 when the newspaper was purchased from Disney. Prior to joining Knight Ridder, he worked for Capital Cities and Disney for 22 years. He began his career at the Star-Telegram in 1975. He served as president of Sutton Industries, (The Penny Saver) and executive vice president and general manager of the Kansas City Star. In 2002, he received the John S. Knight Gold Medal. This is the highest honor Knight Ridder awards annually to one of their outstanding employees.
Wes grew up in Austin, Texas. He received his Bachelor's Degree from The University of Texas at Austin in 1973.
Wes serves on the boards of Performing Arts of Fort Worth, Van Cliburn Foundation, Fort Worth Symphony, Boys & Girls Club, the United Way, the Davey O'Brien Foundation, and the Texas Daily Newspapers Association.
Wes resides in Fort Worth with his wife, Shirley. He has two daughters, Sara and Leslie, who reside in Charlotte, North Carolina and Fort Worth, Texas respectively.
